Today may be Earth Day but the celebrations continue on throughout the week and through this weekend here on Hawaii Island’s “Kona Side”. The 21st Annual Hawaii Community college Earth Day Fair, featuring live entertainment and numerous complimentary events and activities, is on for Friday, April 23 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the upper grounds of Hawaii Community College. On Saturday, April 24, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, together with the University of Hawaii Sea Grant Program, hosts its 2010 Earth Day Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Keauhou Beach Resort & Kahalu’u Beach Park…a short and easy drive from Holualoa Inn! The Fair showcases more than 60 exhibits and activities focused on raising awareness about recycling, coastal restoration and preservation, ocean literacy, energy and conservation, sustainable living and “green” Hawaiian cultural practices. The educational and fun activities include tide pool exploration, whale and dolphin games, encounters with “Reef Teach” and “Green Power Girl” who will teach children all they need to know to care for the planet. Entertainment includes dance performances by the Hula Halau O Po’ohala and slack key guitar master Makana. Get more details at: 808/329-1758. Meanwhile here at Holualoa Inn, we embrace organic and sustainable farming — in our produce and fruit gardens, and in the coffee orchards. Our happy chickens graze freely, producing 100% organic eggs. All of these delicious products make up the foundation for Chef Brian’s uber delicious and hearty Holualoa Inn breakfasts! Keeping it “Green” all year round — our land stewards Kat and Chris.
