A Perfect Big Island Wedding Weekend in Kailua Kona

The Hawaiian Islands are a go-to destination wedding location and with good reason. Hawaii has a heavenly temperate-tropical climate and exotic local culture, but your guests won’t need a passport to visit. The Island of Hawaii, known as “the Big Island,” is less crowded than the other major islands. As the largest island, it offers a dizzying array of natural wonders and activities to keep all your guests happy. Yes, even your soon-to-be mother-in-law. Below is our guide to the perfect Big Island wedding weekend.

Step 1. The venue

The Holualoa Inn, located in the artist village of Holualoa, is a unique venue offering the perfect combination of formal and casual. Your Big Island wedding can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your personal style. You can have refinement and ceremony without sacrificing comfort and heart.

The inn and our event space sit nestled on our 30-acre coffee farm, just up the hill from Kailua Kona. Our venue offers privacy, tranquility, and abundant natural beauty. The stunning vistas, old-growth trees, and tropical gardens offer an array of beautiful backdrops for your precious moments. Whether you’re envisioning an intimate gathering or a grand affair, our venue offers versatile spaces to accommodate your needs. Check out our various wedding packages, schedule a tour of the property, or request more information.

Step 2. The itinerary

Friday – Arrival Day

Afternoon – Drop your bags and feel the stress of travel just melt away as you sip refreshments, smell sweet floral breezes, and take in the soothing views of the Kona Coast. Start your stay the aloha way with a traditional Hawaiian lei greeting. Have a little time to kill before checking in? Explore Holualoa Village’s various galleries showcasing the work of local artists.

Evening – Grab dinner at Holualoa Farm & Kitchen, conveniently located within walking distance of the inn, or take a short drive to explore the variety that Kailua Kona has to offer. A couple of our favorites, Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill and Magic’s Beach Grill are only a 10-15 drive away. Don’t feel like going out? Let us do the cooking and arrange a heat-and-serve dinner for two at the inn.

Saturday – Wedding Day!

Early Morning – Wake up to a delicious gourmet breakfast and 100% Kona estate-grown coffee. Our chefs are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions or food allergies. After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely walk in our private art and sculpture garden.

Late morning – Book a private yoga class on the property for you and your guests, or take some time to unwind with your partner before the ceremony with a relaxing couples massage.

Early Afternoon – Gather your wedding party and glam squad in our spacious Red Barn. This room is the ideal accompaniment space for hair and makeup and even includes a spacious dressing room and mirror to get wedding ready. With so much room to spread out, it’s a comfortable and convenient space to prep and includes a kitchenette and Kona coffee to keep your day fueled. You can even arrange for fruit and cheese platters or filling lunch wraps for your guests to graze on while you get ready.

Just steps away from the Red Barn room is the Malulani Pavilion and Great Lawn for your ceremony and reception. We provide a list of preferred vendors to help you find the perfect photographer, food, décor, flowers, and entertainment for your Big Island wedding, but you’re welcome to choose any vendor you like to make the event truly your own. Need some wedding inspiration? See what other couples have done.

Late Afternoon – Ceremony! Exchange your vows and say your “I dos” on our Great Lawn, surrounded by friends and family while the sun dips into the Pacific Ocean.

Evening – Reception, your style. Make it a formal affair with an elegant catered dinner or make it a dance party with a taco truck. Whatever your vision is, we can help you bring it to life.
