The Ironman World Championship will be held this Saturday, October 10th in Kailua-Kona and this year, Holualoa Inn is honored to welcome home two Ironman triathletes. These competitors have trained for months, perhaps years, raced to qualify for the Championship and are eager to face the ultimate endurance challenge. We hope you’ll join us in wishing them and all the triathletes the best of luck for a successful day’s event.
The race begins this Saturday at 6:30 a.m. at the Kailua Pier with all 1,800 competitors diving into the water to begin their 2.4 mile swim. This is followed by a 112 mile bike ride to Hawi and back and then a 26.2 mile run. The top contenders will race to the finish line at the Kailua Pier in the early afternoon, but spectators can cheer on the remaining competitors as they cross the finish line throughout the evening.
Whatever the results, we commend these triathletes for their stamina and commitment to excellence. And when the trials of the day are over, our two warriors can return home to the serenity of Holualoa Inn for rest, recuperation, a long soak in our hot tub, and perhaps a deep pressure massage in our outdoor massage pavilion. We can also arrange a private yoga lesson followed by a healthy, garden-to-table lunch.
If you’re planning a trip to Kona on Saturday, be sure to read our Tips for Watching blog, or check in with our Innkeepers as we can advise you on parking strategies and where best to enjoy all the action throughout the day. If you’re looking to escape the crowds, our Innkeepers can advise you of alternative activities and routes around the road closures. Another option, of course, is to stay on property and simply enjoy the day, the views, the pool and a good book. Whether you’re a triathlete, yogi, or just enjoy a nice walk through our gardens, Holualoa Inn offers the ideal setting for rejuvenating your mind, body and spirit.
